Behind The Smile, A Different Story
Locked Rage is a mixed media sculpture that draws attention to the reality of domestic violence and the suffering that often remains hidden behind carefully maintained appearances.
The work portrays a woman who appears polished, confident, and composed. Yet beneath that outward image are visible signs of harm, represented through bruises and fractured surfaces that reveal a different reality.
Many victims of abuse continue to navigate daily life while carrying physical and emotional wounds that others may never see. The artwork explores the contrast between public image and private pain, highlighting how violence can remain hidden behind smiles, beauty, and social expectations.
Created from reclaimed materials, the sculpture reflects both fragility and resilience. Discarded elements are transformed into a unified form that speaks to survival, dignity, and the strength required to endure difficult circumstances.
Locked Rage is not only a reflection on suffering. It is also a call for awareness, empathy, protection, and collective action against domestic violence in all its forms.
Materials Used
Locked Rage was created using reclaimed and repurposed materials including corrugated cardboard, upcycled sachet plastic beads, aluminium beverage cans, can tabs, eggshell fragments, acrylic rhinestones, nail enamel, acrylic paint marker, and assorted found objects. Each material contributes texture, symbolism, and visual contrast, reinforcing the work’s exploration of contained emotion and transformation.

What Happens To Unspoken Emotions?
Locked Rage emerged from a curiosity about the emotions people carry without expression.
Many experiences leave traces beneath the surface. Disappointment, frustration, grief, pressure, and anger are often hidden behind everyday appearances.
The reclaimed materials used in this work reflect that reality. Objects that have been discarded, overlooked, or fragmented are brought together into a unified form, mirroring the way people carry different experiences within themselves.
The work is ultimately about transformation— recognizing emotion, understanding it, and finding constructive ways to channel it into growth, creativity, and self-awareness.
